Fern is a YC-backed (W22) developer-tools startup that helps engineering teams ship “Stripe-level” SDKs and documentation for their REST APIs. Inspired by internal tooling at AWS and Palantir, Fern turns an OpenAPI-style spec into typed client libraries and polished docs in minutes - unlocking better DX and faster adoption for customers such as Square, Auth0, Intuit, Cohere, ElevenLabs, and Webflow.

About the role:

This role is ideal for ambitious engineers with entrepreneurial goals. Many of us are former or future founders, and this is an opportunity to scale a company from $1M to $10M ARR while partnering with fast-growing tech companies shaping the future of software. 

In this role you’ll be:

• A power-user of Vercel, maintaining a multi-tenant Next.js platform that serves hundreds of documentation sites and owning the open-source “backend-for-frontend” layer.

• Transforming customer requests into zero-to-one features: gathers feedback, architects solutions, develops functionality, and coordinates public releases within a rapid feedback loop.

• Working daily with React, TypeScript, Next.js, TailwindCSS, shadcn components, and AWS, leveraging best-in-class tools to optimise developer experience.

• Collaborating directly with the CEO and CTO on hiring initiatives, helping to scale and mentor a growing engineering team.

About you:

• 3+ years of professional software experience with a 70/30 backend-to-frontend split
• Strong TypeScript skills; comfortable across Node.js, Next.js and modern tooling
• Proven track record building backend or API-driven products at a reputable venture-backed startup (Series A-C) or high-bar tech company
• Experience with self-hosted / multi-tenant SaaS or infrastructure-as-code setups
• Confident working with AWS services, PostgreSQL + Prisma, and microservice patterns
• Customer-first mindset and excitement for in-person collaboration in Brooklyn
• Bonus: hands-on with Vercel, OpenAPI tooling, React, TailwindCSS, Rust, or LLM platforms (Claude, Bedrock)
